Curtis is the daughter Carmencita Ojales, a Filipina born in Bolinao Pangasinan, and James Ernest Curtis Smith who was an Australian lawyer. Curtis was born in Yarrawonga located in Victoria, Australia. In 1982, her father became married to Ojales. Jasmine, her younger sister is an actress as well. From their father's perspective, they had a half-sister named Clare who passed away in 2007 of a cardiovascular illness that occurred at 4 months of age.
