The tasks that she had to perform left her dissatisfied which is why, when she decided not to continue in the field of journalism, she was able to move into the industry of publicity. DuVernay began her professional career as a junior assistant to publicity in a tiny film studio, right after graduating from the college. She was promoted to the position and set up her own public relations company known as The DuVernay Agency in 1999.
